Boxee now has an official TED App. Channel surfing can now make you smarter.
TED shines as a powerful example of what small organizations can do when people rally around an idea – namely that great ideas should be spread. TED stands for Technology Entertainment Design (sounds a lot like Boxee!) and the organization is famous for their TED conferences, TEDx events, and their wonderful website which all celebrate ideas worth spreading.
The TED website is home to almost 800 presentations and talks by scientists, artists, writers, doctors, humanitarians, activists, technologists, designers, politicians, and more. If you haven’t seen a TED talk before, prepare to be blown away as some of the world’s best minds share their knowledge in a way that’s powerful and moving for any audience. Normally I’d say set aside 45 minutes and visit the website to watch a few talks. Today, I’m happy to say set aside a few hours, get comfy on the couch, and turn on the TED App on Boxee.

With the new TED App on Boxee, users have access to TED’s full database of videos. Users can search for any video, organized by themes like The Creative Spark, Tales of Invention, Unconventional Explanations, What’s Next in Tech, Master Storytellers, Bold Predictions & Stern Warnings, and organized by tags like Technology, Biology, Economics, Storytelling, Brain, Art, Politics, organized by length, and lastly featured by TED…

TED is front and center on Boxee today so check out the website now, read their blog post about the new Boxee App, and explore the App later tonight on your TV when you get home. And keep watching because new TED talks are posted Monday through Friday.

Prolific Boxee developer Fuzz the Destroyer adds to his extensive portfolio of Boxee apps with a dead simple and crazy useful entry called “Find My Phone.” The appropriately titled app uses the Twilio API to find where you put your phone with a clean interface and a wry sense of humor. Helpful for every Boxee install, this app even helped me find my own handset stuck behind a seat in the airport terminal in which this announcement was written.
