boxee is the developer of the first “social” media center. boxee plays media from your computer and other devices in your home network, as well as connect you to various Internet sources that allow you to stream or download movies, tv shows, music and photos.
boxee is based on the xbmc open-source project. we have been working with team-xbmc since early 2007.
we are in the process of alpha testing boxee, so this is why you need to get an invite to participate.. sorry. the alpha is for Mac OS X 10.4 (and above), Ubuntu and Apple TV (a Windows version will come out towards the end of the year)

I’ve been playing around with Navi-X and quickly came to realize that there’s a major gap in a user getting to the content in which they’re interested, reliably. I’ve started documenting a “to do” list for improving Navi-X, or creating a plug-in to provide a similar capability, but am now really curious as to whether you guys haven’t already built the better mousetrap.

I’ve been looking for a media solution for the past year. I had almost given up after finding almost everything else on the market seriously lacking. That is until I discoverd Boxee. I am extremely impressed with Boxee so far and I wanted to tell you that I really appreciate your work. I’ve installed Boxee on my ATV and three other macs in my home which are all accessing a NAS amongst other sources – it works beautifully. I’ve only been using it for a few hours and most of this time was setup (I like process as much as product anyway!), but I will give some more critical feedback at a later date.

In less than an hour Boxee turned AppleTV – which was never worth the electricity to turn on – into a gateway to online video. Great product!
I just installed boxee, but I have no content to watch that’s currently on my hard drive. How do I find and download streaming content from online? This seems like a dumb question, but I can’t find the answer and the link to the Support page resulted in this error:
help.boxee.tv uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because it is self signed.
(Error code: sec_error_untrusted_issuer)
What are the technical requirements to use this?
CPU Speed? Operating System (HINT: I do NOT use Windows), Graphics Card, Ram?
