Happy Holidays

by

The Boxee crew has been hard at work polishing up Boxee Live TV for the release next month.  But for now, we’re taking a bit of time to see our families and celebrate whichever holidays we choose.  So from our Boxee family to yours, we wish you all a great and happy holiday, and happy New Year.

  2. honkerdown says:

Totally agree with Alex, still waiting for a Windows update as well.

Enjoy your holidays! Take your time to invent new set of lies, you, team of shameless liars! :-/

Happy Holidays… unless you're a PC user, then screw you.

  7. Miguel says:

    Thanks for awesome products.

    Happy holidays.

    Ignore the haters.

  8. Nate says:

Thank you (honestly) for the work you guys have done. It’s nice to see quality competition in this space! :)

And screw the first 6 of you to comment for being so… blatantly rude. =\ You’re bashing on a holiday post about a product that was FREE to you to begin with.

Already get coal in your stockings or something?

    I’m with Nate

Happy Holidays and thank you for Boxee.

Of course I have been patiently waiting for the windows update, but not worried about it now since my media pc just died. Guess I will have to go an get another Boxee box next month to replace it, besides it will give me more room in my entertainment center.

Still lovin my Boxee box though and Happy Holidays again, be sure to spend time with your family.

First it was late 2010, then early 2011, then fall 2011 – fool us three times and no one will believe you when you actually get around to releasing the PC clients. HUGE public relations fail, Boxee. Alienating your user base is never a good idea. Thankfully there's Plex and XBMC, two companies that actually deliver and make good on their promises.

The girl in the green is so pretty!!

I agree with Miguel and Nate. Takes some gall to leave negative feedback and props for competing products as a reply on a post wishing us all a happy holiday.

    Love my Box

Ignore the haters. You said you will we release a desktop update, so I’m sure you will, but only when it’s ready for public consumption. It is obvious that things have got a little delayed, since Christmas is here, and the promised autumn launch hasn’t materialised…

Any chance of an update, however vague, of when we are likely to see desktop updates?

I personally appreciate you allocating your valuable resources to do this, since the Boxxee box obviously keeps you pretty busy!

Keep up the good work… Looking forward to the New Year bringing more Boxee goodness!

Where is my Christmas present – an updated Windows client?

  16. So is the 32-bit Ubuntu release all were going to get?

If you read in between the lines: the only way Boxee is going to move forward if it continues to be a platform to deliver premium content. As these sources insist on DRM (Netflix, VUDU etc) they need to move to a secured platform. Therefore they can no longer offer Boxee on platforms that are hackable or easy to manipulate the DRM protections. It's not really Boxee's fault: rather they have grown up have to deal with the big bad media companies and therefore have to bend to the will of the fatcats.

What makes Boxee so special is that it not only supports the local media capabilities of XBMC or Plex (Boxee is a fork of XBMC btw) but it incorporates web media and internet based media streaming services so well. As long as Boxee wants to keep doing both, they will need to appease the content companies. This means a closed and proprietary system is its only way forward.
