Last week we announced that Live TV was coming to Boxee in January. Today, the SlingPlayer app that was teased earlier this year arrives, bringing live and recorded content from your SlingBox to any TV with a Boxee Box connected. For those who aren’t ready to cut the cord, we still want to help you shave your cable bill by never having to pay for the same content over and over. Whether you’re 3 rooms from your main cable box at home, 3 states away at college, or 3 continents away from your home working, a Slingbox will let you watch your home tv from anywhere with an Internet connection. Hook up a Boxee Box in one of those locations, and not only will you get all of the top original and on demand programming from the web, but a defacto second cable box with no monthly fees.

With the SlingPlayer app, Sling Solo or Pro-HD owners will be able to use the Boxee Box to:
- Control their cable box, satellite receiver, DVR, or DVD player from anywhere in the world
- Program their DVR and access DVR content
- Stream programming in 1080i to Boxee.
We think it’s a pretty killer combination. Whether you’re a parent looking for a present for your college student (free cable from home), or just looking to equip a second room or vacation house with more entertainment, then Boxee + Sling are a great way to go.

Game changer.
Finally! this is so awesome
Will this received stereo or 5.1 audio from the SlingBoxPRO-HD?

Just bought a slingbox pro hd now! I have been wanting a way to watch all my content on Boxee and this finally does it. I still can't watch NFL games solely through the internet, but this will allow me to never have to use my DirecTV box again.
If you guys get the PC app updated this year and this app works with it, that'll really be a game changer.
Unavailable with the Windows/Mac/Linux version of Boxee Box….surprised I am not….
The PC boxee versions are dead, man. Uninstall and move to xbmc or plex.
That is very cool! I am bummed it's not available on the PC version, though.
Awesome.
Can anyone confirm if COAX input is supported?
I know the previous sling player app for XBMC did not support slingbox's coax input.
My Slingbox Pro-HD is connected solely to analog cable via the coax. It absolutely streams to the box.
Will this app work with the Dish Network VIP 922 SlingLoaded DVR?
Cool idea, and for mobile use Sling box is nice. But in reality its pretty frustrating trying to move through your cable box/dish menu with this. There's no way any one would want to use this a the main way to access your cable/dish programming. It would be better if they provided a channel guide like the PC sling box client does, but using this for any thing other than once in a while to watch a sporting event or 1 show that you recorded would be an act of frustration!
YES! FINALLY!
i can't wait to get home to try this out.
I’ve been using my TV Everywhere set-up (Sling adaptor and 722k receiver) for some time now and I absolutely love it. I’ve been a subscriber of DISH Network for years but didn’t even know they had this type of mobile solution until recently when I went to work for them. It’s perfect for when I travel (which is frequent), and unbelievably convenient that I can watch any of my live programming as well as anything on my DVR. So I’ve been recommending it to everyone I meet that also travels a lot or lives an on-the-go lifestyle.
Dish employee/user with 722k and sling adapter. Was hoping this worked with the sling adapter setup but was unable to figure it out. Is this possible now or will it be soon?
Boxee steals software and disrespects user freedom and license obligations: http://infinityoverzero.com/bbox/
Wow, you keep on talking about the almighty Box. What about the Fall Software Update for Windows, Mac, and Linux. At least get 1.0 out for the Software Users, before running off with the Box and forgetting us again.
once again, a new app crashing boxee … can you just wait and test your apps with boxee restrictions fully, before realeasing it and making pple frustrated. remember WSJ live /same issue/ right ?
We need something like this is Australia, will it work here?
Wow that's a pretty incredible innovation.
I just tried this and it's good..
It's awesome. I like it. http://tinyurl.com/6cgjlna
Very interesting and informative article keep up the good work.
I haven't tried this yet – it does sound like a nice addition to Boxee. However, I do think it's semi essential you come up with a way of allowing one to use the regular cable/satellite remote control rather than relying on Sling's very cumbersome control system.
thank you
