It's one thing to make the content available, and I'm all for that. It should be an open platform. But it's another thing to promote the content with a contest and encourage people to follow Beck on Twitter. We have a right to express disappointment in Boxee for taking that step.

Have to admit, I still have Boxee installed on my linux box that serves my mythtv since it all runs on a single box behind my TV. Getting the "boxee box" just to add another box to my TV didn't seem like a great idea. Now if they allowed putting the HDTV cards and mythtv onto the boxee box, I'll put in an order….

Don’t be Mike. Whatever your politics are, what he’s doing with over the top and web based media distribution is exciting. And it will be a very useful blue print for future commentators of other political persuasions to move away from 24 hour cable news (something many of us would like to see die).
I’m personally not a Beck fan, but what GBTV is doing is worth paying attention to. And it’s behind a pay wall, so if you don’t like it, it’s easy to ignore.
Might I recommend as alternative (and free!) news sources: LiveStation app(BBC and Al Jazeera), NPR, TuneIn, WSJ Live.

Having Beck's app on Boxee is
1) significant in that a major figure in 24 hour news has completely embraced web based media and has developed a viable economic model to support it.
2)Is no more an endorsement of his politics than our hosting YouPorn is an endorsement of their depiction/treatment of women.
Whatever your politics, what Glenn Beck is doing with "over the top" is significant and exciting. The model he's creating will hopefully lead to a larger and more diverse group of political figures to take the same leap.
I'm not a Beck fan, but what GBTV is doing is worth paying attention to. And it's behind a pay wall, so if folks don't like it, it's easy to ignore.
Like I said above, if GBTV rubs you the wrong way, you should check out LiveStation (BBC, BBC World, Al Jazeera), BBC App, WSJ Live, NPR which are all in our app section and available for free.

As others have suggested better than me, it's not the inclusion of the app that offends so much, but the implied endorsement through promotion and a contest and the recommendation to follow GBTV on Twitter. In my view this goes beyond the democracy of Boxee and tacitly aligns the brand with Beck. I wonder what Avner makes of this.

I was rather annoyed that there was only an app on Roku, so I am very excited to hear that I can now watch GBTV through my Boxee Box. I'll be trying this out as soon as I get home today.

It's insane that a streaming media box can't keep Flash updated.

Flash support is being updated in the coming fall update.
Please consider this a priority. There are a number of sites that no longer work due to the out of date flash player.
Is it a big deal to update? For the future, would it not be smarter to put out smaller releases for Flash player updates since it's used so widely?

We promote almost all new apps on Boxee. Besides, it's behind a pay wall, so it's easily avoidable.
I'd recommend Al Jazeera, BBC, BBC World, or WSJ Live which are all available through livestation or WSJ Live, if you're looking for news programming. They're also all available for free.
I've actually got a Roku box on route to Israel to watch Beck on so I'm glad I'll be able to see if the Boxee box I've already got works here. I'm sure the Roku will find a happy home with a friend if Boxee works.
GBTV already has a massive subscriber base and Boxee would be mad to listen to the nutty nay sayers and let ideology control their platform. Well done.

Unfortunately, it apparently doesn't work on Boxee PC. Since GBTV uses the MLB platform, and MLB is available on Boxee PC, there seems to be no technical reason for it, but I could be wrong. If it's excluded as a way to sell hardware. could we expect to see it later down the road?

The reason it's not on the free software is that there are HLS issues that haven't been fixed there, that have been on the Boxee Box. We're hoping to get live streaming up and running on the software for the fall but we can't say for sure whether it will make it in or not.
So it's not on other platforms just because those platforms aren't technically able to run the app.
Randy there is a way to watch GBTV on a PC version of Boxee. It won't be live but you can grab some software named Replay Catcher, it will download as it plays the flv file. When complete you can view it with Boxee.

The DVR function of the web based GBTV viewer is very temperamental on my PC's. Very prone to not reconnecting to the stream when I skip ahead. And since I'm still waiting on my HDMI switcher/matrix to show up from Ebay. I don't have my Roku connected to try it there.
Please get GBTV on the Boxee PC platform ASAP. Before it's too late for everybody else!
