Tonight we’re in East London sharing some new partners, showing off the iPad, and establishing a beachhead for further European growth. Here’s a quick run through of tonight’s announcements.
LAUNCHING TONIGHT
BBC iPlayer
Following some recent technical changes, BBC iPlayer is back and is better than ever. With a fresh new look, this is the BBC your way, giving you on demand access to all that the BBC has to offer from the past seven days. There’s nothing else to do, other than sit back, relax and enjoy your favourite BBC programmes from the comfort of your sofa at a time that suits you.
COMING SOON
Blink Box
As the UK’s largest online movies and TV website, BlinkBox is a perfect match for our first major rental service dedicated to Great Britain. They’ve partnered with pretty much every major studio to offer a huge selection of movies and TV at competitive prices and a load of free stuff as well (see one of my favorites, Summer Heights High for free). Tonight we’ve announced a partnership with them to bring their shows and movies to both the Boxee library as well as to a special Blink Box app so UK users can enjoy everything the service provides. Work starts in September with a release currently slated for the end of the year.
SNEAK PEEK – Boxee for iPad
Tonight we’re also giving people a sneak peek at the Boxee iPad App. The goal was to create something that stood on its own to bring Boxee to the iPad – videos your friends have shared, featured items, your watch later queue, as well as video files from your local network (using the new Boxee Media Server). Of course if you’ve got a Boxee Box as well, you’ll be able to use the iPad app as a way to send stuff to your TV.
We were very excited to see the event in London sell out and we think it speaks volumes about the demand for Boxee not only in the UK but across Europe in general so we hope this will be the first of many events and announcements for our European users.
Cheers,
Team Boxee

Boxee for ipad, cool.
Any news on boxee for PC, which has not been updated in the past year?
Boxee for PC user here. I feel abandoned. Will the Boxee iPad app be supported with the PC client?? I'd love to get the updates that the Box gets. Don't forget about your first install base that helped you guys get started!
Great to see Blinkbox coming to Boxee. And a working iPlayer is great. Are there any other partners to be announced or are those two it? Lots of UK people I imagine were keeping their fingers crossed for LoveFilm integration.
The 'make your own boxee' page should be taken down – it's full of lies "frequent over the air updates" being one of them. Also the shot of a laptop and a TV doesn't show the actual correct UI for boxee on a PC. Whilst I appreciate you don't have to offer an up-to-date version of boxee for all users, it'd be nice if you didn't use it as a selling point at least. A little honesty abd respect for your original users, and for the new ones thinking of building their own box would be much appreciated. Just a thought.
Agree 100%. Boxee team seems to be outright ignoring us HTPC users. I'd really like to be acknowledged one way or another….
Release the iPad app today!
Include airplay and make the box $100!
HTPC users: be glad Boxee hasn't released any updates for you in the past year!
The latest update for Boxee Box broke video buffering, rendering it less useful than a brick. Seems like every update fixes 5 things but breaks 20 more.
So, yes, please hurry up and finish the iPad app, Boxee. Because that's such a high priority.
That's a shame, but it's better than living in limbo. Boxee simply won't comment on the PC versions at all. They promised some sort of reply months ago (was avner in these blog comments, actually) and never came through.
Check one or more boxes:
Boxee is actively developing for [ ] Linux [ ] Mac [ ] Windows [ ] None of the above
If boxee feels they're better off abandoning the PC users to support their IHV customers, that is perfectly valid, we understand, and can live with that decision. But boxee does need to let us know, one way or the other.
If boxee continues to disregard core users (pc) it should ask digg.com about how the internet can turn on them. Just know that we dont forget and any future products will have to pay for such a treatment.
Your sense of entitlement regarding your FREE software is something to behold.
I'd pay for it in a heartbeat.
JonB; I am someone who used boxee for PC going back a while, then bought a box but it's hard to sit here and see the promises go by without any love for those people who put this damn software on the map! I would gladly pay for software for PC if push came to shove and I know MANY people would as well. These blog posts all seem to want to discuss "meet and greets" rather than what the hell is up with the large majority of the users of boxee as a software platform!
If you want to/would pay for boxee updates then you can, buy the boxee box, hey presto updates. I can understand people moaning about the recent slow update to the box, they paid £200+ for it but the whining, bitching pc brigade need to shut the hell up, it's free, if you don't like it then use something else.
I completely concur… still no PC/Mac update and no news…
Thanks guys, Is Boxee short sight in not providing pc base updates, There are other options, Simple.. I was thinking on buying the Boxee box, but i'm not prepare to invest £200 with out trying it first, I'm not impressed, the browser crashes and there is not bbc iplayer, and many series got only very old episodes.. As me there are many new users that will try it first and run away as it is not close to what it is promised on marketing..
iPlayer looks good and works well. I don't know how much control Boxee have over it, but is there any chance of keyboard input being enabled on the search function? It's a bit frustrating to have to use the on screen keyboard when the remote has a perfectly serviceable keyboard built in. Also the play/pause button neither plays nor pauses.
Another blog post and no PC updates. You guys are shady.
Is it normal that I don't get any sound from BBC iPlayer and it looks like you guy's had the same issue tonight during the UK Event ! can we expect a bug fix soon ?
Boxee steals software and disrespects user freedom and license obligations:

Omg stop posting crap about the PC update and go buy a BB if you want the latest and greatest.
I just hope the PC app gets updated soon, why won't they upgrade
((
All sounds very promising. It feels like you guys have really turned a corner recently, your product is looking great again. A music player update for boxee box is pretty much all that i have left on my wish list.
I was at the Boxee event last night Pc version etc will be update to version 1.1 like on the Boxee Box version very soon.
was a great event and fantastic to see boxee firmly landed in the uk – great to see the ipad application too!
i blogged here.

(still adding content too it thou)
Thanks guys for a great London event last night, and the beer & t-shirt!
It was great to see the team and hear about the history of Boxee, where the company is going and it's focus on the UK market, great for us Brits!
I think people who are complaining about lack of platform support, versions of Boxee for the PC etc. need to understand that Boxee is still a small company with limited resources.
As a software developer myself, I can completely understand Avner's explaination about delivery focus for the dev teams. The Boxee box platform has to be a priority if Boxee plans to continue it's drive into the consumer market, beyond the tech-savvy HTPC market. Once Boxee starts to gain traction in the consumer market, other hardware manufacturers will start to take notice and will want to integrate Boxee into their devices. Similarly, more and more content providers will want their content delivered through Boxee.
Now that the Boxee team there with the latest platform release for the box, development effort can be focused on readying the platform for Ubuntu/Mac OSX/Windows.
As a Windows HTPC owner, I'm looking forward to the 1.1 platform coming to Windows when it's ready in a few months!
One question I didn't get to ask though, any news on street dates for the "Iomega TV with Boxee"? Not being able to store content locally on the D-Link Boxee Box definitely put me off picking it over building my own HTPC with Boxee.
Thanks again Boxee team, keep up the good work!
SFK
Nicely said SFK. The Boxee team seems to be on the right track. Keep up the good work guys!
awesome summer heights high is awesome. Aussie 2. If your interested check out Angry Boys it is the same bloke that did Summer but in a new show.
its funny.
Its amazing. There are interface things which people have been begging for, for months – the menu wrap arounds, random picture slideshows, consecutive video file playback – simple things which should take one programmer a few days, possible a week – yet with 20 you haven't been able to do it for months. Are you always out partying and drinking up the money ? Or are the programmers not that good?
Time to get some better programmers and get to work.
Want Want Want, Me Me Me
I very glad to see the UK Boxee customers are finally getting some love! Having the iPlayer app back is a solid step in the right direction (although it does seem a bit buggy still, the times in the schedules sometimes don't match the programs and what's up with the search field not taking keyboard input?).
Now if we just had a Last.fm app & milkdrop we'd be almost back to the Beta levels of functionality…
Hey Andrew,
I'm a proud owner of a Boxee Box as well as a mac mini running Boxee as well. I love what you did with the Boxee Box update. It looks great, I love the seeking feature. I was confused why volume control was turned off via the remote but was able to turn it back on in settings. I hope that update will be ported to the software for the mac mini as well.
My real suggestion though, is about Cover Art for movies and tv shows. As most of us are aware, Boxee uses a few websites to grab metadata (ratings, cover art, synopsis, etc). The thing I don't understand is why grab it over and over again? Why not store all the cover art and meta data locally. That way if the internet is out, we still see our cover art and it wouldn't need to reload them all the time. Also, I would love the ability to use my own cover art. Maybe I found a better DVD cover somewhere or maybe its something that's not in your database, a short film I made perhaps. Other than that, I love the service Boxee provides. It's much more handsome than looking at filenames on a hard drive.
Thanks,
Jason
Due to the effective death of Boxee for PC, I've since moved on to XBMC and shan't be looking back. Slick UI doesn't come close to making up for stagnation and broken promises.
Great to see Blinkbox coming to Boxee. And a working iPlayer is great. Are there any other partners to be announced or are those two it? Lots of UK people I imagine were keeping their fingers crossed for LoveFilm integration.
Has the new iPlayer app already launched? I am unable to find or install it presently.
No Android love?
Please we need the Justin.TV app on the boxee box, I have the app on PC boxes but I hate waiting for my PC to load up so decided to buy the boxes box and was upset to find it wasn't on there so please talk to the developer and get the app for boxes box…
Excellent. When do you plan to add LoveFilm to the list of content provider you support (or that support you?)
