We are happy to announce that TV shows and movies streaming instantly from Netflix are now available on the Boxee Box by D-Link in the US and Canada.
Netflix support was the most common request we had on our blog comments, forum posts, tweets, etc. We heard you loud and clear. We were bummed that we could not make it happen earlier, but are very excited to have it out today.
To instantly watch movies streaming Netflix on your Boxee Box, you’ll need to update the software on your Box – it will update automatically to the new version (1.0.4.17443) within the next 24hrs or you can manually check for the update by going to Settings>System>Update.
I’ve been a Netflix member for years now, and anxiously waiting for the day when I could use it at home on my Boxee Box. For only $7.99 a month this is a no brainer. It’s not just about movies, I just finished the last season of Spartacus, and I’m now watching Season 2 episodes shortly after they air. Netflix already has more than 20M members, if you’re not one of them you should sign up for Netflix now. They have a one month free trial.
Netflix on the Box will simultaneously launch in Canada. Netflix on the Box is different from the version you see on the PC/Mac versions of Boxee. It has the brand new Netflix UI which they constantly update, test and improve. Additionally there’s more discovery options featuring unique Netflix recommendations and many of the movies are available in HD. If you are a Netflix fan, you will love it. Order a Boxee Box from Amazon here.
Below is an amateur video of Andrew by Andrew showing Netflix running on the Boxee Box:
Now that you’ve seen it in action, pick up a Boxee Box today.

Included in this release is a new Application signing process was introduced with this version. If you are hosting your own Applications Repository, or developing applications on the Boxee Box, make sure to sign up at http://www.boxee.tv/developer, and generate the required keys.
If you are a Boxee Box user who is having an issue with an App in an external repository, please contact the developers and inform them of this change.
Check out all the updates to the firmware here.

So this is the same interface as on the PS3. The same to the point that the play/pause button and escape buttons don't work. Having XMB in the middle of Boxee is awkward. Do you guys have the ability to fix this? Is there pending UI work here?
I'm also worried since this is the same interface the PS3 had about a month ago. It lets me access all the Netflix movie by drilling down by genre. I really like it. But then the PS3 app got "upgraded" and now the interface sucks. So to me the latter part of " It has the brand new Netflix UI which they constantly update, test and improve." sounds like a threat.
Could use some reassurance here that you won't let Netflix make their app suck like Sony apparently did.
We are going to work with Netflix and provide them with this type of feedback.
Re the new UI. You are right it is in Netflix's control. Like with any major UI refresh some people like it and some people don't. I am confident Netflix will monitor usage and listen to what people are saying, as they make their UX and overall offering better and better.
Same is true for Vudu and other partners who are building their own apps.
Good to know that the obvious UI faults are a known issue then.
Of course you are right about UI changes being inherently controversial (ex: people whining when facebook moves something from the left to the right
).
But I would encourage you to compare the current PS3 netflix app and compare it to the Boxee. Its not just a UI change, its a major regression in functionality. It basically requires you to use a web browser to realistically find movies you want to watch. My fear is that the PS3 version is the 'new improved' version, and the x86 port is simply pending…
How do you explain Roku having their own app? Was using the pre-built Netflix app just part of your deal with Netflix?
Now that Netflix is on board, will Hulu Plus finally be awailable? It was last mentioned in Nov 2010 …
We are working with Hulu to bring out Hulu Plus. No timelines, yet..
Congratulations on the upgrade. From our POV, the Netflix app and UI is outstanding.
+1 on the request to prioritize Hulu Plus next. Our goal is to [virtually] replace our expensive cable TV DVR with the Boxee Box, and Netflix + Hulu Plus is the key.

Thanks for the hard work getting Netflix out on Boxee Box. I’m happy with my BB and now even more so.
Glad to hear you are happy with the Box. Sorry it took us that long to bring Netflix out.
MAN! I was waiting until Boxee got netflix to buy. After not seeing a light at the end of the tunnel I just bought a new AppleTV last week! I guess I'll have to see if I can get a refund, still drooling over the Boxee box….
Go get one!
How can I authorize Netflix on Boxeebox? I get an error which tells me I am not authorized and directs me to netflix.com/tvhelp.
Where do I get a code to enter in the Netflix app to authorize it with netflix.com?
Nevermind. I unauthorized, then relaunched Netflix on my Boxeebox and it appears to be working now.
It was working for me since the update, now I'm getting the same pop up window….? I was authorized before and now not? Is this a bug to be fixed? Help
Please try from Boxee Box settings and clear the Netflix data:
Settings > System > Services > Clear Netflix Data…and launch Netflix again
Same problem here, even after removing Netflix once and twice… Hope you guys can fix it
Had to clear Netflix data to get it working. It stopped working again.
Please fix
I am having the same issue. I have to clear Netflix Data and re-log in on a daily basis. And I just got booted out in the middle of a show. Please fix
Same problem what causes this? Do I have to clear info and reregister every time?
I have had this error pop up twice saying the device was not activated and to contact Netflix. I have called them twice and they instructed me on how to deactivate and then I have to sign on again from the prompt and it works. I wrote down their instructions on how to fix it if it happens again but I hope a fix is in the works for it. Netflix works beautifully when its working.
I have the same issue. Very upsetting considering it's a service thats been promised and now its released, it is not working. Why release an app that isn't fully functional? I love the boxee features curently, but this a great dissapointment.
I have the same problem here. Really annoying having to clear the data each day, relaunch & log in. Please fix.
Same issue…worked fine on Tuesday, and on Wednesday I get a "can't authorize device" error message and also a "can't start…try again later" (or something like that) message. What gives?
should now be fixed if you are still experiencing this issue please contact me directly at marcel {at} boxee{dot}tv
When you are watching a movie in Netflix, the movie stops, and the messeage apears " internet connection is lost" It happens for 10 times, hope you guys will fix it.
Netflix app movie list on right hand side of screen pixelated (text and images). Just started the app.
Congrats on the update. Any hope for some (desperately needed) metadata scrape improvements? Specifically,
–alternatives to imdb.com (very limited in many aspects: direct-to-dvd, foreign) like tvdb, etc. Simply put, IMDB just doesn't have everything.
–previously scanned and manually identified local media metadata random disappearance (although this could be fixed if you allowed this info to be stored on an SD card)
–despite the "TV Shows" directory/folder on my Ext HD scan results showing "568 files found, 6 missing identity", only a fraction show up under the Boxee TV SHOWS section. Seems like random episodes. Frustrating having to navigate through the "ugly" Files menu option
–cumbersome scrolling through shows w/ many seasons
Other improvements:
–support for 3TB ext HD (I know this issue hasn't been on your end; kernels, etc)
–Overall UI customization
All for now. Keep up the good work
Great jobs guys.. Im from Canada and thought I would have to wait a little longer what a great surprise too see Netflix…….
Again Great Job
is the netflix app coming to boxee on the old apple tv?
A great job. I am from America and thought I would have to wait a little longer for Netflix on the Boxee Box.
Tonight I intend to watch the latest episode of Spartacus.
As we say in the video, the first thing we noticed about the Tab 10.1 was how light it felt in
If they don’t want it, they shouldn’t be in business, or be perfect from the beginning, I guess.
Does this mean that Netflix will be coming to the Linux port of Boxee?
Nope. CE and desktop are unrelated.
Michael Reeves will you go out with me?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The grammar/spelling here is mind-bottling
mind-bottling or mind-boggling?
Anchorman: When your thoughts get all trapped up….like in a bottle.
put an a diper and fill up a bottel and cry about it
Avner, long time user (since alpha), when do us loyal users (in Canada) get some netflix love on the desktop version. This is just getting ridiculous.
I understand the frustration, but this is not in our control.
There's nothing wrong with the netflix website in Canada, can you use that? I don't see why people need a netflix app on the desktop version of boxee… just use netflix itself?
Because many have made their own boxee with the desktop version as the boxee website suggests. I've used a Mac Mini with a Harmony Remote to control everything – this does not work from the couch with the Netflix website. Anver says "I understand the frustration, but this is not in our control." Well, perhaps he could tell us Canadians who does control this, so that we can express our frustration to them, and hopefully get the problem resolved, or at least an explanation of why it cannot be resolved. The vague passing of the buck Anver gives us does little to alleviate frustration.
Yesterday I try to watch Netflix on Boxee, a big Error message came out, ( could not retrieve information or something like that, Contact Boxee Customer Service ) WHAT THE HELL !! . . . . . . . . . . . . . anyone having problems with Netflix yesterday or Today ??
ok, i'll jump up and down with those who own a boxee box and can now watch netflix. but, i can't help but want to share that i found out about boxee because someone gave me a gen 1 apple tv and a roku box and call me crazy but i had been under the impression that your agreement with netflix would not be boxee box specific and those of us with a gen 1 apple tv could with the patch stick and a new software download that i too would netflix and better yet only have to use 1 device…cuz right now all the components connected to my tv look like a octopus. please advise if we gen 1 apple tv boxee users are out of luck (or in my case need to buy all the cables to get the roku box working-not something i wanted to do) or if we're just suppose to be patient and you haven't left us behind?
i cant watch netflix!!!!! it keep saying we're unable to connect you to netflix. please try again later. try again. helllllp meeee please my xbox membership is almost over….:-(
Not related to this particular update, Boxee Box seems to have problems playing simple MP4v streams from a Sony T1, T9 and T300 cam. Audio i playing fine, but no video.
Where can bugs or request be posted?
Very glad the Netflix app is finally out, I can stop switching back to my Wii just to watch Netflix. I've had a chance to watch 2 movies so far, and both gradually slipped out of sync (audio). The only fix is to stop and resume the movie. I haven't had this problem with any other Boxee app yet, and it never happened on the Wii Neflix app, so it's got to be something with the Boxee Netflix app only. You guys haven't had this issue?
I have this problem also, but I also had it with my blue-ray player with Netflix access. It is annoying.
And it DOES NOT WORK… after waiting months and months, and having all sorts of other problems, that have been reported and still outstanding, there is much that is wrong with this…
Im thinking about just buying a Roku and dumping this Boxee… anyone want to buy mine?
We were bummed that we could not make it happen earlier, but are very excited to have it out today.
Hi Avner!
Netflix is great news! Will you consider making an app for Mp3Tunes and an improved streaming radio app. the RadioTime app is just horrible.
Thanks!
Happy Valentine’s Day for All
I just enabled password protection for my SMB shares. Now I noticed that Boxee won't store SMB passwords after rebooting the box. Is there any special option for this? It's kind of annoying to reenter the user and password every time.
VUDU already integrates its available media into the movies and shows sections, will we ever see similar functionality with Netflix media?
(It would also be cool if your instant queue integrated with the watch later list.)
Keep up the good work guys, I'm always on the front lines recommending Boxee to my customers at Fry's Electronics.

Good morning Boxee box. Today Netflix began operations in Brazil. I just can not sync my account with the device through the Boxee website box. Enter login and password when the following message appears -Authorization Failed . I would like to know how to proceed
Hi, someone knows if Netflix on Boxee already works in Mexico Netflix accounts ??, thanks
Hopefully Netflix reinvents this promotion again for the upcoming Valentines day of 2012. My wife and I always make it a priority to spend the night together and watch movies we ordered.
Such a nice way to wish a Happy Valentine..
Great job on the Netflix app. I'm excited not only that it has arrived, but also to hear it is using technology that is up to date (html5). Great job and much love!
Do you think they developed it?
How? It's bad news for the rest of the world which doesn't even have Netflix. Now add-ons have to be signed all of a sudden, wondering what'll be next.
All that DRM stuff also killed the Popcorn Hour for me. Time to sell, again.
troll much…
Seriously, how can you complain about this? Good Job guys!
It's called negative feedback. If they don't want it, they shouldn't be in business, or be perfect from the beginning, I guess.
You are just a negative troll as usual. Seriously get a life.
