VUDU Arriving Next Week, Netflix By End Of January

We’re sorry that VUDU and Netflix will not be available on the Boxee Box until January.

These services provide amazing access to a huge catalogue of movies and TV shows in great quality.  They are pillars of the future we see at Boxee where you can watch almost any movie or show, whenever you want.  They were also inspirations that helped us decide to start Boxee in 2007.

If you’re new to Boxee or received a Boxee Box as a gift, you can surf through previous blog posts and our forums to see how our team has done its best to create the product that all of us wanted to enjoy digital “stuff” on our TVs.  While both services are up and running in our offices on the Boxee Box, we need some more time to test each application to make sure they are ready for  launch.  We expect VUDU to be up and running next week.  We have a brand new version of Netflix we expect to arrive by the end of January.

I know many users will be upset.  I am disappointed that we couldn’t make it happen in time for the end of the year.  However I’d ask that you put your faith in us.  There are countless devices with access to these services available, but I’d like to think you chose Boxee because we offer something different, in our  approach, in our commitment, in our passion, in the way we communicate (whether its good stuff or bad), and in how quickly we move on the stuff that matters most to our users.

Looking back at 2010 it’s hard to believe so much has happened in just 12 months. We are going to be at the CES Show next week and are really excited about 2011. For us it’s going to be about continuing to improve the Boxee software, getting Boxee on additional devices, bringing more content (both in the US and internationally) and making Boxee available on more screens.

Happy New Year everyone!

After seeing Boxee Box last January at CES I waited somewhat impatiently for release. As soon as Amazon had it for order, I signed up. Then I receved it a couple of weeks before the (final) promised shipping date. I'm happy with the product even as I await further enhancements.

Thanks for the local user upgrades, The alphabet list to move quickly to movies helps a lot. However, I need to be able to add movies not on IMDB – such as full-length music videos, personal videos, etc. EMDB lets me edit titles and add any content I wish. I was expecting something like that with the Boxee Box.

Multiple video categories would be nice, too. I'd like to separate my personal videos from the commercial videos.

Please, can you ignore an initial article (a, an, the) when alphabetizing content such as movies? Or at least let us delete the articles. That's REALLY annoying.

I second some of the the criticisms of the remote – needs more contrast for a dark room, can't tell if it is up or down, browser handling sucks, etc. However, I like the small size. It easy to handle.

I have large music and photo collections, so I will be quite happy when you are able to devote more time to that user interface. At least I can find everything easily in the Files section.

Once you get Netflix up next month I will be able to move my Home Theater computer to another part of the house and re-allocate it. However, I'm just watching and waiting expectantly.

It's too bad that some people are so upset. I think you have a great product which will just get better based upon your customer-service attitude. The product is priced fairly in my opinion, and I think the outrage of some is way out of line.

Why the **** are you surprised that people are upset?! We paid for a product that not only still doesn't deliver the same quality that the "beta" version did (full screen issues with online content, etc), but that also DOESN'T DELIVER WHAT WAS ON THE BACK OF THE DAMN BOX WHEN I BOUGHT IT (VUDU)!!!

I'm sorry, but once you pay for a product you get to stop kissing the developers' asses :)

I feel like a freier. I've had patience and faith, but when you miss a self-imposed deadline… once (launch – Vudo was NOT included as the box said it did)… twice (end of the year)… thrice (the week ended, and the Boxee marketing machine was out in force, unfortunately, that means loyal customers get the short shrift and saw no promised update)… now we're up to the fourth promise… the deadline is now "will release the firmware tomorrow"…

whatever… do you have anything else you'd like to sell me? A bridge, or an investment opportunity? I can't wait to throw more money at you people, you've shown you're worthy of a consumer's trust, wouldn't you say?

Can´t wait to get netflix. been without it for one month now after I sold my HTPC prematurely. you naughty naughty boys. :)

    Hello Avner

Which gameconsoles are you guys thinking of incorporating Boxee with?

    • fperrotta says:

I would really like to see it on a PS3, so I can use my Ps3 for more than just playing my games.(which I don't use that often anymore)

I was wondering, once you add netflix to the boxee box will this enable you to release a binary plugin for a boxee built on an appletv or other linux machine? I think this would make boxee a hero in the linux community and would breath new life in existing boxee installs. Is there any reason this wouldn't be possible?

Vudu just confirmed 3D Movies – also for boxee.

But Hope to See this will working well – though I still Wonder Why in the world boxee hasn't been delivered with an update HDMI 1.4

  6. Jason says:

are we still getting videos of Vudu and Netflix up and running on the Boxee Box?

  7. DMAN says:

It's been a week, do we get the update today???

I'm more interested in the big fixes the US features I cannot access…

  8. Nick says:

I wonder if they will miss the deadline again? I hope NOT, it's a credibility issue.

  9. Paco says:

Today is next week, where is the f update?

  10. Eddie says:

So, you promise Vudu this week, and yet, as of today, it's not available. Stop making promises you can't keep. I genuinely wish I never got Boxee, but it's too late for me to return this piece of crap. Be realistic in your promises, or just fucking go away!

  11. I really enjoyed this! Can I post this on my site and link back to you?

  12. Scott Brown says:

Well I am boxing this thing up and sending it back to Amazon.com thank god I have till Jan31st for a refund. One promise after another and still nothing except for delay after delay. Your promise of Vudu has turned out to be DoDo again.

  13. angree person says:

really makes you think that the boxee people just don't give a F@@K, wish i hadn't wasted my money.

  14. Fahed Ismail says:

    Avner,

You do understand that a very large percentage of your customers(myself included) purchased your solution as a cheaper alternative to many far superior solutions. Also most of these customer were mislead by your false claims pertaining to Netflix, Hulu and the likes, now I work in sales for a software vendor and this is a classic case of false advertising. You can not sell features that you don't have. Your organization has some nerve if you think that it is acceptable to recognize the revenue from sales of Boxee Box. I would actually say that based on the very high percentage of customers that have purchased Boxee Box under false pretenses, it is very likely that you are materially overstating your revenues. You have not delivered your end of the transaction. It is totally unacceptable for you treat your customers in this manner. I suggest you get this dealt with in very short order. When I promise a customer something and put a deadline on it, it is as good as my job and companies reputation on the line. So in short, I do not accept your apology here as it is completley unfair. I would suggest you offer your customers refunds or allow them to wait. I'm so insulted by reading this post, that I no longer agree to wait, for you to get it together and I will act as I should've on Jan 1.

    Kindest Regards

So Boxee promises to have Vudu this week. Here it is Friday night 11:30 pm EST and no Vudu. How are we, as customers supposed to put “our faith in you” when you cannot live up to your own expectation setting. CES 2011 is no excuse. You’ve had plenty of time to plan for this Vudu release. It’s pathetic and I’m sending this thing back ASAP! Down with Boxee Box!

  16. Gunner- says:

I didn't see them at CES… Not at D-Link either..
