Boxee Box Ships on Nov 10th, RSVP for the launch event in NYC

BoxeeLaunch

We just got final confirmation from D-Link that the Boxee Box will start shipping on Nov 10th. Boxee and D-Link will have a launch event in NYC to celebrate and demo the Boxee Box, complete with Boxee 1.0.

People who pre-ordered from Amazon should receive their Box as early as Nov 11. The Boxes should start appearing in stores on Nov 17th (if you are the type of person who can’t wait the extra week you should probably pre-order from Amazon today).

D-Link has gone the extra mile (or kilometer) and turned mid-November into a worldwide launch. You can already pre-order the Boxee Box in Canada, Australia/New Zealand, UK and in other countries across Europe (these units will all start shipping on or shortly after the 10th).

On the evening of the 10th Boxee and D-Link will have a launch event in NYC to celebrate and demo Boxee 1.0, a new version of Boxee software that will initially be available only on the Boxee Box and will later roll out to Mac, PC and Linux.

If you are a Boxee fan and plan to be in NYC on 11.10.10 we would love to see you there. RSVP HERE. There will also be a live broadcast of the event on the Internets. More details to come.

[...] Boxee added Movie Library to the Boxee Beta. It’s like the TV Show Library, allowing you to add titles to your queue for later viewing. There aren’t any major labels but there is still a lot of content on there. I’m sure this is just a start. EZTakes No more searching high and low for art house, independent, classic and cult films, because EZTakes specializes in bringing hard-to-find movies to you. The EZTakes library contains nearly a thousand ad-supported titles ripe for the picking that you can watch on Boxee or virtually any computer, smart phone or portable video player. [...]

Unfortunately I think Rico is right. The development has been painfully slow and I suspect larger companies are about to eat boxee alive. But hey it’s free and open source. I have boxee on my HTPC but i usually end up using firefox. I “want” boxee to succeed but I fear it will end up being an obscure geek toy. My main concern is from google tv. Since it is open source as well. So that kinda leaves boxee in the cold.

And honestly XBMC still runs better. Which is sad cause boxee is built off it. I know boxee is a social platform as well. But it just doesn’t run very well.

hey boxee team, nice about the party and all.. um.. will it have the basic features such as netflix and hulu? I know you've been avoiding us so until I get that answer I will not be buying your product. Pretty simple question, the fact you guys have been ducking us (people actually interested in your product and not googletv) says it all.

Very disappointed in boxee, good luck, here i come google tv.

BTW google tv just announced netflix and hulu will be not only integrated into their set top box but their software built in all new tv's with google tv. So now the real question is… why should the average consumer buy a boxee box? For the award winning communication between developer and consumer.. think not.

How come the price in US dollars is the same in UK pounds???

    Avner,

Is it confirmed that the browser is fully Flash compatible ?

Could you comment whether browser maintains a history list of last used URLs to avoid retyping ?

Boxee is now available in Europe. It costs £199.99 on Amazon. That converts to $320!!! To say I'm disappointed would be a massive understatement and on principle alone I would refuse to buy a product which is a staggering 60% more expensive in one country over another. Deal breaker!

Can i buy Boxee Box from Argentina? Thks!

    FRANCE???????? PRE-ORDER??

I’d love a boxee box, the software is great. However in the UK it’s £200 ($322.68), thats twice the cost of a new apple TV. If the boxee box was £150 ($243), i’d pre-order one.

But considering the boxee box is $200 (£124) in the US, It’s safe to say UK guys are getting a very raw deal!

OK, here's what I've found on the Netflix issue. I just got off the phone with Netflix and the customer service rep stated that Netflix is partnered with Boxee Box, and that Boxee Box will be supporting Netflix. However, support issues will be directed to Boxee Box since they are the ones supplying the Netflix app.
