Boxee now has an official TED App. Channel surfing can now make you smarter.
TED shines as a powerful example of what small organizations can do when people rally around an idea – namely that great ideas should be spread. TED stands for Technology Entertainment Design (sounds a lot like Boxee!) and the organization is famous for their TED conferences, TEDx events, and their wonderful website which all celebrate ideas worth spreading.
The TED website is home to almost 800 presentations and talks by scientists, artists, writers, doctors, humanitarians, activists, technologists, designers, politicians, and more. If you haven’t seen a TED talk before, prepare to be blown away as some of the world’s best minds share their knowledge in a way that’s powerful and moving for any audience. Normally I’d say set aside 45 minutes and visit the website to watch a few talks. Today, I’m happy to say set aside a few hours, get comfy on the couch, and turn on the TED App on Boxee.

With the new TED App on Boxee, users have access to TED’s full database of videos. Users can search for any video, organized by themes like The Creative Spark, Tales of Invention, Unconventional Explanations, What’s Next in Tech, Master Storytellers, Bold Predictions & Stern Warnings, and organized by tags like Technology, Biology, Economics, Storytelling, Brain, Art, Politics, organized by length, and lastly featured by TED…

TED is front and center on Boxee today so check out the website now, read their blog post about the new Boxee App, and explore the App later tonight on your TV when you get home. And keep watching because new TED talks are posted Monday through Friday.

This is great news, thanks guys. The unofficial TED app has been my most used since I first installed Boxee.
I've already set up a date night with the Mrs. which will be all TED, all the time.
The current TED app has been great. I think I've seen the last 30 ted talks thanks to boxee. Super glad to see a polished app thats nice and pretty.
Thanks Boxee and Ted!
Sweet! This definitely has been missing from Boxee and I can't wait to dive in. Since I'm not at home to check myself: does the app offer the HD vids or are they the standard definition ones we've had via the RSS-feed that's included in Boxee by default?
the App streams the highest quality video they give us : )
This is awesome, but will video playback on certain hardware be fixed then? The unofficial TED app never worked (got audio, but no video) on my Aspire Revo 3610…
should work much better now that we're official.
Great work guys, I hope that you can bring more partnerships on board. One thing I'll recommend is to keep an eye on 3rd party apps, some of this are not well maintain and don't work correctly (Hot for works, IGN, etc.) I would suggest you'll check them periodically and if they are not working take them down. This will be an issue once you release the Box.
Good luck!
going through this with every app we have right now so you should see updates over the next few weeks. thanks for keeping an eye out for us.
Thanks for the response Andrew, I love having Boxee at home and I enjoy the product very much.
Good luck!
This app will be legen………dary
+5 points to Josh for getting the reference.
(and I hope you're not lactose intolerant because the second part of that statement is dairy!)
Thanks so much for this app.
Andrew,
Kelby TV (http://kelbytv.com/) has about seven internet tv shows revolving around photography and photoshop. Very popular. DTownTV is my favourite. You can pull them in via RSS feed app, but helping Kelby understand the value of a Boxee app (photographers only think about photography) might bring in some good web content to Boxee. These are also folks who know a lot about video on new DSLRs, which are now being used by folks to cheaply develop internet video content that is much more high quality than ever before. They also have online video-based training that is very successful, extensive and would be great on Boxee (http://www.kelbytraining.com/).
Rory
and i learned a lot!
It's everything here exactly what I was looking for
I'm so happy that I step in right here.
+1 for the how i met your mother reference. =)
Not going to lie when I saw TED I thought you meant torrent episode downloader it would be nice for the boxee box to support torrents and NZBs but I know piracy would be too big of a concern.

Aw, this was a really quality post. In theory I’d like to write like this too -
Is there a way to watch talks "watched" as in the old ted app?
