Since the launch of the Boxee Beta in January, users been vocal about their love of the TV Show Library – one place to search and browse full-length TV Shows from major networks across the web. For episodic content online, we think it’s the best experience you’ll find.

Today we’re adding the foundations of a new Movie Library to complement the TV Show Library. This new Movie Library includes thousands of films from four great launch partners: EZTakes, Indie Movies Online, MUBI* and Openfilm. Most of these movies are available for free (supported by ads). Explore each service’s catalogue using the ‘filter by provider’ option on the Movie Library sidebar.
While it’s still a little rough around the edges, here’s a quick peek at what you’ll find from each provider:
EZTakes
No more searching high and low for art house, independent, classic and cult films, because EZTakes specializes in bringing hard-to-find movies to you. The EZTakes library contains nearly a thousand ad-supported titles ripe for the picking that you can watch on Boxee or virtually any computer, smart phone or portable video player.
IndieMoviesOnline
Since June 2009, IndieMoviesOnline has been streaming high quality independent films, documentaries, and shorts. Known for its fierce movie reviews and behind-the-scenes editorials of all the top box-office hits (and flops), IndieMoviesOnline delivers films from both mainstream talent and hot up-and-comers. With free access anywhere on the globe to hundreds of movies, there’s no excuse not to soak up these great indie flicks.
MUBI*
MUBI is your online cinema, anytime, anywhere. MUBI will give you the latest buzz from Cannes or a restored masterpiece personally chosen by Martin Scorsese (he’s a member, too!). A social network that can let you find a visual gem that will definitely not be released in the local multiplex, and allows you to find a girl in Tokyo who loves Kubrick (she actually exists, her name is Yuko and she’s into Wong Kar-Wai too…).
*NB: to access MUBI on Boxee, you’ll need to pair your account first.OpenFilm
Openfilm.com is a fast-growing online community where filmmakers and film lovers around the globe discover and distribute independent film. Through its unique technology, live online chats, social network, extensive film festival database, unique member channels, and Advisory Board, which includes James Caan, Robert Duvall, Mark Rydell and Scott Caan, Openfilm unites the best elements of the film industry in one place.
The Movie Library makes it easy to find, watch, or queue movies you like. Moving forward, it will include movies from additional online movie services and directly from studios, so while the movie selection will grow, the experience and ease of discovery will remain the same.
So just to recap:
- Boxee now has a movie library
- it has thousands of movies from multiple sources
- the movie library has titles available for users around the globe
- we’re still making tweaks (images, film count, etc.)
- we’ll be adding more movies and services soon.
As always, this latest version of the Boxee Beta also includes many bug fixes (more than 100 in this latest build). Versions for Mac, Windows, and Linux are available now while the AppleTV version will be updated next week (we’re getting to it as quickly as we can!).
Download the latest version here for free.
Sincerely,
Andrew & Team Boxee

Now I need to figure out how to update Boxee on my Ubuntu machine. Thanks for adding in movies!
You can head to http://www.boxee.tv/download to get the latest deb package, or add
deb http://apt.boxee.tv lucid main
in System > Administration > Software Sources
Congrats guys! The movie library works great (even in the UK)!
Repo for Lucid still showing old version.
The apt repo was updated shortly after the main release. Sync again.
great addition! please consider adding the provider filter to tv shows as well
we will add it to TV Shows as well
Looking forward to the additional sources. Indexing content from netflix would be HUGE for me.
Any reason the link to the source package was changed to an older version?
I went looking for the new version (0.9.22.13692) and the link now points to the 0.9.21.11497, which is specially weird since 0.9.21.12563 was previously available for download.
Nevermind, the new source is now available
Any plans to support LoveFilm in the UK, it's a bit of an obvious choice for UK users.
we would love, too. will try to make it happen.
Excellent, thanks for the reply Avner!
Your business guys said they were already working on lovefilm support back in May

Yes. This stuff takes a long time..
Just awesome. Maybe you guys can ad archive.org They host alot, I mean alot, of public domain movies. 2,560 films to be exact, but they have more than just feature films. They allow direct file access to DivX, Ogg and MPEG2 files.

Another New Version of Boxee is good.
Hi guys,
I'm seriously confused about the upgrade process of Boxee. The blog post links to download page, the AppleTV download link goes to an article from May 12, but doesn't really give me much to go in terms of what the upgrade process entails.
There is mention of "Click on Boxee, then select update launcher and then update Boxee Beta", but when i check launcher (v3.2.5 – which seems to be the latest version available?) I see "XMBC, Boxee, Downloads, Settings, About". If i click Boxee, i'm just taken into Boxee itself.
I've read in a few places the "update" link may be "download" depending on your version and i have a downloads option under launcher, but it only has the previous version and no way to check for new updates.
I really wish there was a simple, straight forward upgrading guide and that the current website workflow was a bit more informative in terms of whats going on. Clicking downloads, you expect to download something, then when you click on the AppleTv option, you're taken to a guide for installing boxee.
I'm on AppleTV 3.02. I have launcher 3.2.5 and the first beta of Boxee (i think its the 0.9.21.12563 build).
Can someone please point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Chris
Any thoughts on when the GUI sound configuration screen will be fixed to allow putting in a custom audio device, _correctly_? Currently it doesn't write correctly to guisettings.xml. A manual edit fixes the problem. I'm referring to bug 3966 that's been on the books at Jira since December 09. Thanks.
PLEASE GIVE US NETFLIX INDEXING FOR THE MOVIE/TV LIBRARIES.
When is the Boxee Box coming out? I'm tired of waiting and might just get the Apple TV if it looks good when the update is announced next week.
All will be revealed in November. As soon as we can give you a more specific date, we will.
Andrew: Does "all will be revealed" actually now mean the 'release' date promised for November, really means 'sometime in future', like 2011-12? Thanks.
November means November. We realize it coincided with "No Shave" November and Mustaches for Kids fundraiser, but it's a risk we had to take.
I see Boxee is still ignoring the most basic of features in any kind of a media player – Play All / Playlist – and don't give me bs about adding it to your queue – you shouldn't need confirmation to start the next item or have to add every single episode of a tv show, mini-series or albulm of music. This is the most requested feature of all time from your product – listen to the people who use it (and more importantly to the people who don't because you are lacking it.)

Until then Boxee will never be taken as a serious competitor in multimedia/home theater lineup.
Anyway to hide R-Rated movies?
not right now, but definitely something we should build.
What is the quality of these movies? Any HD?
most are SD since it's hard to get rights to stream in HD for ad-supported content. hope to add more HD stuff soon.
Well done guys – great release.
I installed Boxee using aTVFlash on the weekend on a friends appleTV – now trying to upgrade on my AppleTV
I use aTVflash – but seem unable to get the latest version of Boxee on my aTV
When I go to the Boxee / XBMC Launcher / Downloads
Boxee alpha 0.9.14.6992
Boxee beta 0.9.21.12563
Any other way to get this new version on my aTV?
Thx again!
M
Should become available soon
how can i download it frome here?
I'm a big fan of Mubi. Will my rentals there work in Boxee or is it just the stuff they make available?
Yahoo! Search Assist helps you find what you need with fewer keystrokes by taking into account the location from which you’re searching.
Give this new feature a try and let us know what you think about geo-sensitive search suggestions
I actually got to this website by doing a search for movies to stream Online. Will you write an article on the top movies to watch online thanks
I only just recently discovered the world of blogs, and I have to say you're quickly becoming one of my favorites. Great post and look forward to seeing more from you.
this is far feom the truth. we thought great look at all these free movies. most of them are not free at all infact95% are mubi movies which you have to pay for. then i decided to find movies with the web browser. tv guid has lots of free full lenth things however all the networks they are linked to wont play on boxee.
