Today we’re announcing a new partnership with Sonic Solutions, the guys behind RoxioNow, who are the guys behind digital delivery for companies like Best Buy (CinemaNow), Blockbuster, and Lionsgate to name a few. That’s a a lot of guys (and girls too), and we don’t want you to miss out on any of them.
This alliance with Sonic will enable us to partner with some of the best known content providers and deliver more premium content on Boxee over the coming months. As users, we’re huge believers in the power of choice – we want you to be able to use any web service you’d like on Boxee to view content and this partnership opens a big door to making that possible. RoxioNow serves a broad range of premium content to a growing ecosystem of home and mobile devices including PCs, connected TVs, set-top DVRs, Blu-ray Disc players, smartphones, and mobile devices.
We will be licensing Sonic’s RoxioNow entertainment platform across all Boxee-enabled devices to let us partner with companies who can deliver huge catalogues of digital content including brand new movie releases to users in HD with 5.1 surround sound. Stores powered by RoxioNow enable users to instantly rent and purchase content to be watched watch on multiple devices so eventually you’ll be able to purchase a movie on Boxee through a RoxioNow store, then watch it on multiple devices in your house or on the go.
While the platform integration with RoxioNow is already in the works, you’ll begin to see RoxioNow partner content appear on Boxee over the coming months… and in time for the Boxee Box by D-Link launch.

USA only we Europeans guess??
Hi Andrew
Great news.
Question for you…I'm a tech consultant and blogger (http://arnoldwaldstein.com) and doing some writing with a group of bloggers in Europe on social and connected TV (http://www.appmarket.tv/).
As the New Yorker in the group and a Boxee fan, I want to post on where you see Boxee playing into the GoogleTV announcement.
If you are game, glad to send you a list of questions or grab a coffee to discuss.
It's important enough for me to ge this right and not lean on my own conjectures.
Let me know.
Thanks
Arnold

I love that you guys are still pushing. But boxee is so 2008.
With apple coming out with the new apple tv and support for 150k apps priced @ $100.
Google TV with its search engine power and new multimedia capabilities.
I think your company is done for. The world would prefer a TIVO over a boxee box that only geeks have heard of at this point.
Boxee box is oging the way of the joojoo tablet. Sorry guys but you are the weakest link.
Sincerely,
Ex Boee fan.
Rico – sorry to hear you're an ex. Google TV and AppleTV will have a huge impact on the market when they come out, but it will be a great boost for us since they'll spend millions to tell people about getting Internet on your TV. We're still in the first inning of this revolution, and there's lots of pie to be had by everyone…
I just wanted to chime in on this. The Apple TV has been plugged in to TV's for ages, and not everything google touches turns in to magic.
What you're saying isn't necessarily untrue, but Boxee serves a crowd of early adopters to the idea of TV via the web, on demand. The premium content is really going to up the credibility of the service, but it's kept afloat by dedicated members who love to see a free alternative to devices like the apple TV. Sounds like Boxee really isn't for you dude, but luckily, as you pointed out, there are alternatives to serve consumers such as yourself.
And as long as there are other members such as myself (which there are a LOT of us), Boxee won't be going anywhere except forward.
Thanks Boxee!!!
From what I understand of Google TV, is that they wont be having any way to manage your current files, outside of simple search. One of the many reason I will stick with boxee and buy me a boxee box is the way it displays my huge library with cover art. If I wanted to search my library through simple text, I would just stick with the default windows search. Boxee wins.
Good thing boxee is software and not a sky scraper. Beautiful thing about software is that it can change… of course the market and community will make the call.
Glad to see more premium content in the works. With Hulu switching to subscription, I didn't have much more than Netflix to choose from. Are you guys still working on that payment gateway? The last thing i'd want is to have 20 different places to pay for premium content on Boxee.
payment platform is slated for end of July and we're hoping to give you one place to manage all your content purchases…
Sweeeeeeeeeeeet. I will be patiently waiting. BTW I agree that you guys will have a leg up over Apple TV (hate closed crap), and I'm not sure what to think about Google's device yet. Either way, if the device is put out pretty stable, it'll take off.
Hi,
Is there a way Boxee could be implemented in xbox 360? That would be a great combo….
My guess is that Boxee will be the first to pioneer most of the new functions and features in the IPTV industry, on a large scale and with open-source availability before other industry leaders. I believe Boxee will actually be recognized as “the standard” and beginning of the industry, even by it’s competitors once Boxee starts actually competing.
Most companies will be more concerned about people installing modifications and hacking their product rather than implementing new features to their product… they are too concerned about people being able to download and watch online content at their own leisure, WITHOUT commercial interruption… where will the money come from without people being fed advertisements almost every second of the day??
Securing revenues is ALL Google and Apple are concerned with… Boxee’s focus is more on functionality and implementation. I’d choose Boxee any day with choices like these.
I dont know why but I really like kids games
Unfortunately I think Rico is right. The development has been painfully slow and I suspect larger companies are about to eat boxee alive. But hey it's free and open source. I have boxee on my HTPC but i usually end up using firefox. I "want" boxee to succeed but I fear it will end up being an obscure geek toy. My main concern is from google tv. Since it is open source as well. So that kinda leaves boxee in the cold.
And honestly XBMC still runs better. Which is sad cause boxee is built off it. I know boxee is a social platform as well. But it just doesn't run very well.
Sound great
the more premium content the better!
