My name is Rahim Sonawalla. I’m currently finishing off my first year
as an Informatics graduate student at the University of California,
Irvine. I was supposed to be working on a research paper, but I saw
the boxee tweet calling for applications, so I figured I’d spend the
day seeing if I could put something together. I wanted to make an
application to browse The Cobra Snake’s photos

–something that’s not easily done from ten feet away– but didn’t have any experience with python, so I started by looking at the source code of existing applications that
did what I wanted (Scanwiches and The Daily Kitten) and went from
there. Since Boxee can consume RSS fairly easily, it was really just a
matter of writing a PHP script to parse The Cobra Snake’s web site and
dynamically generate an RSS feed. (The Cobra Snake doesn’t actually
publish one himself.)
