I built L8R to solve a real problem I was having; finding videos online during the day, and not having the time to watch them. Rather than having to bookmark each video, and then have to visit each site later to watch them one by one, I wanted to aggregate them into one easy to view place. Boxee took that to the next level, by letting me sit down at night, and watch the videos from the comfort of my couch, on a big tv instead of a little laptop screen.

As far as writing the app, most of the work was on the server end, polling the bookmarks from del.icio.us, then using oEmbed and/or scraping to pull the thumbnails and embed codes or filenames for each of the videos, and creating a mrss feed. It was fairly straight-forward to build the boxee side of things using one of the sample applications, and referencing the documentation. I initially just created a boxee compatible rss stream, but made the app to wrap the entering of the username, so that instead of the user having to go into the feeds section and enter “http://l8r.cc/username/rss” as a source, they could just launch l8r, and enter their username into a form.
