boxee is hiring in NYC: python handler

there is a lot of interest in the boxee API. we are looking for someone who can join team-boxee and work with the growing developer community who are building boxee apps.

the right person should be a strong developer, passionate about the Internets, tv shows and movies, like to poke around and look under the hood, have UX awareness and good knowledge of web technologies (especially PHP), be fluent in python scripting and xml, and have photoshop (or gimp) skills to mingle and mangle screens.

the day to day will probably consist of building boxee apps, spending time on twitter, boxee forums and email (chatting with developers who are using the API), drinking at least 3 espressos at FIKA, going to meetings with gidon, and talking with idan on skype.

rather than sending us your CV, send us a boxee app based on the API. we will interview candidates over the next several weeks.

the position is in NYC, but if you’re living somewhere else in the US yet you’re the right person for the job, we’ll help you move.

Thank you. This is one of my frustrations of Boxee. There seems to be a few people who want to dig into making their own stuff and are not able to get support they need to finish the apps.

U.S. only? No Canadians? Re: “but if you’re living somewhere else in the US yet you’re the right person for the job, we’ll help you move”.

if you have a US work visa than it should not be an issue

      • Martin says:

BTW any Canadian engineer/CS major can get a TN visa in about 5 minutes at the border, armed with an appropriately written letter from a lawyer with the company. Letter has to praise uniqueness of skills/experience and mention the intended salary.

Oh, I so wish I were a better programmer. I would love to work for Boxee!

Italian, no US work visa and cra**y python’s skills… not the ideal candidate ;) but I would love to drink a fika’s coffe… (Im sure they refer to the swedish word ‘fika’ but did you ever check what fica mean in italian?)

ciao ciro, si eheh.. ma certo che lo so ;)

se ai qualche bella idea per un boxee app, e ci piace, penso che posiamo trovare un modo di lavorare a sieme :)

poi mandarmi un email a tsella at boxee tv.

(parlo meglio di come scrivo, o al meno ci spero..)

well, I begun to ‘lotter’ in the forum and eat a bit of Boxee’s python. There are plenty of projects possible (and with python everything is pretty there): I’ll begin with something simple (mumbling at use the Spore API to grab the creatures image as login pics? Automatic twitter of played songs? Daily statistic use emails for parenting control?) then pass to the ‘impossible tasks’ (I was thinking a way to integrate personalized ’subtitle’ in movie and clip, and share them with contacts: a sort of homemade text-only Rifftrax)… and what about all the social api out there to explore (news on a world map? Pizzahut orders? amazon gift-list integration? gas price at favorite gas stations? etc).
I let you know my progress on the forum :) .

OT: Anche il tuo italiano ’scritto’ non e’ niente male (beside the usual trickery gender for everything and double letters :) ) Some things in italian are simple impossible to learn and remember without speaking it and writing it everyday.

I’ll keep following the Boxee evolution
        ciao

Boxee can already use Twitter nativly. How about Grooveshark or Spotiy access instead now that they both have open up their API to the public?

i’ve almost finished my study software engineering @ a eindhoven university of applied science, only need a place to graduate! i would love to do that in NYC and i shouldn’t have too much problems getting a work visa i think.. but i don’t know if you want to ‘hire’ someone who’s still a student really and can only guarantee 6 months of internship??
