moving on

boxee heart ny

we would really like to move on and put the Hulu situation behind us. we apologize for the current “now it’s working, now it’s not” inconvenience, and hope we will be able to resolve the issue in the future.

meanwhile we’re really excited about the App Box and people like blip.tv. the App box makes it much easier for us and everyone else to release new apps and add more content to boxee. blip.tv, a video site dedicated to helping great shows find an audience, has already built a boxee app to share their shows with 350,000 boxee users. check your App box to install and start watching.  we are getting lots of interest from developers and content owners like blip.tv and plan to continually expand our API to enable more advanced applications.

a new alpha version will come out on March 24th. i hope those of you who are in NYC that day will be able to come to our meetup. since we had so much interest for the boxee meetup hosted by Get Satisfaction in SF, we’ve expanded the boxee meetup in NYC to accommodate 500 people in Webster Hall.  i’m sure the east coast won’t let us down : )

at the event we will be demo new features, discuss our plans for the beta and give away tees and one new Mac Mini with an adaptor for your HDTV (aka boxee’s best friend)

Waiting patiently for the new release. Wish I could be in NY with you guys for the meet-up, but have fun anyway!

  2. jonny says:

I completely love boxee and will support you, hulu or no

  3. chief says:

    Boxee > Hulu. Simple enough.

  4. shelby says:

Would love to see Hulu stick around in Boxee, if not I hope someone else develops a Hulu plugin for Boxee

    • bmoura says:

The current build of Boxee has a new plug-in that lets you watch the Hulu content. Works fine here !

  5. thomas says:

Just wanted to ask what kind of adapter??

    Boxer all the way!

  6. Michael says:

way way too much hulu hype in my opinion. drop it already. i am canadian and there many other nationalities that use boxee and don't give a sh*t about hulu. get more non-american non-commercial content. bbc stuff is a great start.

ps: and all the apple hype has to stop too. i am a linux user and without an updated release i am starting to think you guys are in apple's back pocket. get software btw. just get with the program.

    • Brian says:

I second that, Michael. Boxee is awesome, with or without Hulu, but please don't forget about the Ubuntu crowd! Great Linux support is why I use Boxee over other solutions.

Guys, I recently returned from Iraq after 15 months of combat with no TV; with that said in my honest opinion HULU is overrated; there are tons of other ways to get media into your TV or computer screen. So let's kick HULU under the bus if they don't want to play.

The bottom line is users have to boycott companies like HULU (FOX and NBC) to let them know who the boss is. Until We The people start to take control of our destiny media outlets will continue to monopolize their business model, take us to the cleaners and continue to rob our hard earned cash.

I survived 15 months of getting mortared and attacked with IED's in Iraq so a little time away from your TV's will do some of us some good. Try reading a book, talk to your kids, mom, and friends and together we can force change

    VIVA!!! BOXEE

  8. AGS says:

The beauty of this whole situation is that Boxee is so good that content (like Blip and many, many others) will come to us, not the other way around.

I have faith in this product, and this team, and will continue to support it.

    Fight the good fight.

  9. Zane says:

I love Boxee, and since the Hulu thing, I have stopped even accessing their site. Long life and may your reign be long Boxee!!!!

  10. Frank says:

I so wish I was in N.Y.C when are you guys planning to swing down to Miami?

  11. Jeff White says:

Hulu is nice, works crankily on my ATV, but if they make enough more idiot decisions like they have been they'll be gone soon enough anyway.

Don't give up on them, but don't rest the future of Boxee on them–Boxee is way bigger!I can't wait to see more apps in the App Box myself!Put a browser and flash support in there and we'll get Hulu by browsing through Boxee to it–and a lot of other great content sites–and they'll never know! That'll learn em!

  12. jeff says:

Wish i could make it how ever it is my daughters 1st birthday cant let her down. Maybe next time

  13. Terry Howard says:

Yes, it really is their loss. I'm not going to return to watching TV on my laptop, instead I am discovering fantastic content on new "channels" like On Networks (Backpack Picnic is hilarious!), Blip.tv, Comedy Central and all the others who have embraced Boxee and have the forward thinking intelligence the old networks seem to lack. Screw 'em, let them be late to the party and lose ground. They need to learn that lesson the hard way I guess.

  14. Jeff Tippett says:

I wish I could be in NYC to celebrate with you. Boxee is the best. Love it.

  15. garf says:

Hulu is hanging themselves with a rope of greed. Their house of cards will probably crumble if they do not facilitate the content consumers.

    Boxee ROCKS!

Thankyou for freeing my household from the chains of the 20th century cable providers.

I keep listening to the news speak about getting free online grant applications so I have been looking around for the best site to get one.
