December 4th, 2008
our next release will come out on Decmber 4th at 8am EST.
some of the things we improved/fixed: local media scanning, YouTube, Flickr, Picasa and CNN. we also spent some more time on Hulu. making it better.
initially we planned for a bug fixing/polish release, but as usual we got a bit over excited and squeezed in a bunch of new stuff…
on Dec 4th we will also start pre-alpha testing of boxee for Windows (we originally planned it for this week, but the scramble around Apple TV 2.3 resulted in a short delay.. sorry). there are ~ 200 people who signed up to be part of the pre-alpha, and we’re going to gradually grow that list until we officially release it in alpha (probably early next year).
almost forgot. happy thanksgiving!

Looking forward to the release guys! Keep up the great work.
This is wonderful news! Keep up the good work! Thank you for another great release (as I know it will be!)
Super excited.
Can’t wait for the Win release..!!
That’s awesome news and keep up the great work! I have boxee on my atv and can’t wait to possibly be a pre-alpha tester for the windows version! Oh, happy days!
Great news. The Hulu performance is a major problem with the Mac alpha.
And a Windows edition is very exciting. Couple it with the low cost PCs out there, exciting possibilities indeed !
How do I update the Mac Client? Just download everything again and install (can’t remember if it was an installer package)? Or ist there an integrated update function I haven’t found yet?
Great to hear Boxee for Windows is finally being released, even if it is only a limited pre-alpha. It’s worked pretty flawlessly so far on Linux for me, and I can’t wait to see how it works in Windows with my XiFi music card (which was stopping me really using it in Linux). Good going guys.
@pax we will send out an email notifying all the alpha testers about the new version. you’ll have to download and install. no auto-update, yet.
Will the Windows version run on a 64-bit Vista OS?
Fenomenal!!!!!
I am ready to start testing hope I get into the Alpha also.
My Media Center is awaiting your product 4TB of Quadcore 6 tuner glory! Now with Hulu I may just get rid of some tuners! Don’t let me down guys I am counting on you to make my media experience complete!
What will the version number be for the Dec 4th release?
Rob
It’s coming tomorrow! Can’t wait.
I’m on the Mac alpha, how can I get on the Windows one? I’ve been waiting for a solution like this for some time!
Shame that only the people who signed up for pre-alpha will get the chance to use it =/
8 am? well, nothing happens yet, still waiting :7
afaik, it`s at 11am ET
where is the windows alpha download. i got in on the 214. will we be sent an email with the download location?
I have a feeling Netflix might be available on the Win32 build before Ubuntu. Granted this sounds like it is a Netflix issue, but I may just have to forget the ubuntu box if this happens first.
hi,
I have been waiting for the Windows boxee too.
This is the MOST DISCUSSED AND AMAZING service on ent and I cant wait to test it on windows.
Hope I am allowed in sometime soon
Hey Great news!
Now you guys can tap into 88% of the computer market!!!! As a business owner i know getting into the majority market can be scary, but let me tell you; it will be worth it.

I have this on my Mac and it’s great. It has a nice interface. Still awaiting a Windows release, considering my PC is connected to my TV.
Greetings all members,
I would just like to say hello and let you know that I’m happy to be a member – been a lurker long enough
Hope to contribute some and gain some knowledge along the way….
[...] Boxee has a Windows version coming December 4th. It’s only going to be in pre-alpha but it’s a start. I was surprised how well Boxee works on Mac as an Alpha, so I’m sure the Windows version will be better than other alpha software releases. I hope I’m one of the 200 people that they will allow to test the pre-alpha.
