Hello, I’m having an issue I get to the end and the flash but it never opens. Any suggestions?
I would love to see a follow up video on what to do after you have Boxee installed. How to access your local data, connect to network resources, utilize the online capabilities, etc. To me, installing Boxee was the easy part.

awesome, that’s a hack for any/everyone. don’t you hate how the apple tv remote controls intel macs too? i might look into zoning out discrete IR codesets for apple devices.

I love presenting boxee to a big group, and controling all of the Macbooks around the stage!
You CAN pair it, via the Mac and Apple TV settings page. But if you lose your remote for ATV, its a 6-second Menu-Left direction “reset” to go back to original “open” code mode.
I bet it would be nice to run Boxee….too bad I can’t.
What are the odds that they will add GPU support so that we can play MKV files.
two quick questions for anyone familiar with Boxee and apple tv: i have a G5 at home and an apple tv. if i borrow an intel mac to make a patchstick and install it on my apple tv…will i be able to use any of the boxee functionality like streaming .avi files from my G5 to my apple tv?
also, how easy is it to uninstall boxee from the apple tv?

Is there enough horsepower in the AppleTV to play ripped Blu-rays or other HD file formats thru Boxee or XBMC?

just got my appleTV, and i’ve got my patchstick ready to roll, but realize the appleTV doesn’t come with the component nor he HDMI cables (duh!) so anyone out there should pick those up separately and learn from guys like me…
Question. The appleTV manual states that a G4 or 5 1Ghz power pc, OR a mac w/ an Intel Chip is required to be on the network as the streaming device. Is this true? I haven’t setup yet due to lack of the aforementioned cables.
I know the boxee install and setup will be a breeze, but I’m having a hard time envisioning what kind of setup I’ll need in addition to the TV and the appleTV device.
Can you suggest a decent flow for the average guy? I know it’s best to have a dedicated machine somewhere in the house where downloading and file storage/management happens, which is fed to the AppleTV? Any recommendations for a good setup? Is there anything to beware of that will make for less than satisfactory playback?
I’ve got an archaic dual 500 G4 as our “office” computer, and i’ve got a macbook w/ Intel chip for my work lappie, so it won’t always be connected to the network, so it can’t be the main content device.

for regular atv, i guess whatever apple says holds true. boxee knows how to handle smb (Windows shares) which can be made available by going to OSX System Preferences > Sharing enabling File Sharing, specifying a directory to share, and making sure that under Options, SMB is enabled.

Can I run Boxee with a G5 Power PC – Pre Intel? How do i get it to see my Videos off Firewire disk on the MAc?
@sam Sutton – boxee runs on Intel Macs only, sorry. unless you only want to use the G5 to create an atv patch stick, which should work fine. re getting your movies off fw, you need to smb (windows) share the mounted drive path and add it as a source under atv (assuming you have an atv)
Well I do appreciate the disjointed video that gives me a bit of a guideline to hacking my AppleTV. I do think it rude of this guy about promoting the not buying anything from Apple with the comment ‘hopefully you didn’t buy any content from iTunes, I haven’t’. He doesn’t seem to show any respect for Apple providing him such a great machine to do this on. I bet if someone was disrespecting him and promoting taking money from his pocket, he would sing a different, disjointed tune. I myself sing the praises of the people of Boxee and hope them to be quite prosperous with this if they should ever charge for it. Past that I realize the program is still new and has lots of bugs in it’s interface and speed of doing things.
@Blair where is your sense of humor? It is well known in the industry that Apple does not make much money (after bandwidth and costs) on selling media, but uses it as a way to sell hardware. And I buy new gear from them year after year. This comment that I made is a real dig on the media industry and their use of DRM to lock the content and keep me from playing it on as many of the devices I own that I want to.

Hey all, Great Job! I just bought an AppleTV after I picked up one for my dad for Xmas. I also loaded up Boxee on it, its pretty awesome. Was sad to see that netflix streaming didnt make the cut, maybe in a later release?

I have to ditto commenter #18, though .. cheap shot about not paying for content. It’s not Apple you’re ripping off, it’s the writers, actors, producers, set decorators and on and on and on … they work hard to make a living, just like you.
Very helpful video. However, after I updated and went back to start Boxee, I got the “flash” on the screen then expected a login page as you described, but got noting but black screen with nowhere to go. Any suggestions?

I did all the process, used atvcreator to create my patchstick… pretty simple… But, when I plug the usb and replug the apple TV, nothing happens. The apple shows up, and then the regular Apple TV menu… is it because my Apple TV version is 2.3 ?

Yeah, I did the same thing. Made the patchstick, inserted into ATV, and nothing happened. Anybody out there know why. I am also running 2.3
I already have boxee on my apple tv. I wish to watch movies I have on a external HD. How can I do that through apple tv & boxee??? My external HD is connected thruogh the USB drive on the apple tv.
Im losing my f’in mind. Im on my second flash drive and for whatever reason the atvusb program will not write the firmware to my flash drive. It goes to write the recovery folder, about halfway through and freezes or maybe Im not giving it enough time.
Shouldnt the file transfer to the flash be the easiest part?!!!!
