apple tv remote woes
we’ve been having some complaints from boxee on atv users losing the remote after upgrading to atv firmware 2.2, and others just complaining their remote stopped working for no apparent reason, regardless of firmware version.
so if you are one of these, couple of pointers to get you back on your boxee:
first, make sure you’re up to date with the great atv launcher from the atvusb-creator team, by selecting boxee, and then clicking “update”, selecting the launcher (depending on your launcher version, it may say “update launcher”).
second, your remote may have become improperly paired, so unpair and pair again.

and of course, its a monday, bunchainvites were just sent

does the remote work over bluetooth not IR?
it’s an ir remote, but apple have a special pairing for it, probably so the same remote used on both their laptop, mini, and atv lines, do not interfere with each other.
HI guys,
I’m not sure if you have a forum for tips but.
1. On my apple tv 2.0.2 – I find Boxee slow, Im on a 10Mbit connection, so I would expect the downloads of cover art etc to be fairly quick
2. Videos should be split in Movies and TV series etc
That was all for now
@Chris – why coverart is slow is a good question. however, it is cached, so once its there, it should be quick unless there is some other issue.
regading tv/movie split, navigate up to options, select filter.
Avner & co:
Trying to get the ATV version pick up on my network – I get an error when I ask it to search. I cannot type in my IP address as I believe the ATV boxee keyboard lacks a “.” ?
thanks – I look fwd to getting this going and providing feedback.
oops… found the “.” on the keyboard.
still not finding my network though.
I have the same problem as jswede, Boxee on my ATV cannot connect to or see my Mac share network. I get a Error 2 message.
Will boxee or xbmc be updated to see my shares on my Apple Time Capsule as this is the only NAS drive I have left?
Thank you
J
@jswede boxee does not manage your network connection under atv. if you have issues with network, try resetting your access point, disable encryption if its enabled and so forth.
@Sneeks we’ve had some issues reported about smb connectivity, although for most it works fine, and resolved the issue in our upcoming version.
@liinjim we’ve tested with airport extremes (which are basically a time capsule sans hdd), and it mostly works. as above for @Sneeks, we have identified an issue which was resolved, so in case it does not work for you, next version holds the solution.
Hiya -
I just used the patchstick on my appleTV and it seemed to go well. I rebooted my aTV and found the Boxee menu on the main screen. I tried to go to Boxee to install, but my remote doesn’t work at all. Nothing… dead… nada.
I’ve searched several times for fixes, but they all seem to involve using the remote somehow. I can’t even do a factory reset because…. well because the remote doesn’t work!
I guess I screwed this up somehow. Can any kind soul help me out with some advice?
Thanks,
Lawrence
I have the same problem… My remote controle dosent seem to work after hacking the apple tv…
Hope someone can help me!!!
Any tips for when the update files keep returning “download failed”?
@shd_cool have you followed the tips in this post? still not working, email me at tsella boxee tv.

@Rick if happens on both boxee and launcher updates, it means your atv is not connected to network. if happens at launcher only, google code, which hosts this, has been inaccessible at times, so just retry.
I had the same experience; installed Boxee just fine, ran the update as instructed, and now the freaking Apple TV remote doesn’t work; I’ve tried restarting it multiple times by unplugging it, still nothing. Dead, and not able to update or uninstall without a remote!
Having problem with the boxee launcher. I installed the patchstick on my ATV without any problem . Restarted the ATV and selected update launcher. Nothing happens when I click the launcher. The boxee launcher selection is scrolling inside its own selection link. When I then try clicking boxee I get a black screen. Remote works fine. ATV indicates my Ethernet network connection is good. Any ideas?
This fixed the problem for me.:

OK, I take it back. In Boxee, the remote isn’t working.
After updating, my remote was working in TV but not in Boxee. This fixed it for me:
