we designed boxee to be an entertainment focused experience. we assumed many people will use boxee on Mac Minis or laptops that are connected to big displays, so we put lots of emphasis on things looking good when you’re 10 foot away. we also figured the most relevant input device will be a remote control (giving extra attention to the Apple Remote).
we realized some people will use boxee on their laptops and will want the keyboard to work, or they’d use a wireless keyboard, so we mapped several keys on the keyboard to allow easy navigation.
but we’re getting lots of requests/complaints about the lack of mouse support, and some people are really passionate about it…
the people have spoken, and we must listen. the next alpha release will be mouse friendly.

hi
imagine this scenario for instance:
computer in bedroom hooked up to the TV in the living room with a long (25ft) cable.
Boxee works fine on the TV but there is no line-of-sight for the IR remote.
Here comes WiFi and iPhone/IPod Touch to the rescue.
There is a great little app called Snatch that turns it into a wireless trackpad/keyboard…
If boxee will have nice mouse support (I thought it already did to some extent…) this will be a great way to enjoy internetTV from the couch!
true, true.
you can enable mouse support today (via the settings. it is turned off by default), but the UI is not designed for mouse interaction. we'll fix it for the next release.
For me, one big plus that comes with mouse support is touchscreen support. Most touchscreens act like usb mice, which creates many more uses for boxee. I'm looking forward to it!
