since our office is in the SoHo we’ll stick with gimme coffee, but there is another place that made it to our short list. joe coffee. got a taste of it yesterday in their Waverly St. location, and bought some beans to test at home.
coffee is very good. great frothing
and the atmosphere also seems great. with places to sit and plug your MacBook (didn’t see even one PC around…) too bad the barista did not really know where they get their coffee from, or whether it is organic, shade grown, fair trade, etc.
my top places to get espresso in NYC:

zibetto is overrated imo. two baristas mumbling between them in would-be italian. mediocre coffee. and the ciocolatta calda.. pfft.. what a joke. not even close.
the coffee at Joe's is great indeed. i checked the source of the coffee. it comes from Barrrington Roasting Company. Some of their coffee is organic and fair trade, but not all (the package avneron chose is neither). so check exactly what you are getting.
You guys def need to check out Roasting Plant over on Orchard right south of Broome.
will check it out and report back. thanks!
btw, this is quite a walk from our office (broadway & spring).
can you recommend a place for lunch while we venture out there?
Absolutely. Sticky Rice (next door to Roasting Plant) has great Thai food. The Tunisian place next door is also very good.
There are some places with good coffee in NY but only one with great coffee, try it out, it's on 20th bet 7th and 8th:
http://www.cafegrumpy.com/
heard about it.
never been there.
will check it out.
you should check out gimme if you haven't already.
vox pop at the bowery poetry club
is it in the same league as cafe grumpy and gimme coffee?
Joe's used to be my coffee spot when I lived around the corner. Also check out the coffee place on Charles near W 4th – next to the fire station. I forget the name…
Try Sticky Rice I love it in there
some other coffee recs in nyc (in order of proximity to soho): la colombe, abraço, ninth st. espresso, cafe grumpy.
i must go to Cafe Grumpy. must.
