He asked if you guys were open sourcing it, but it kind of slipped out of conversation while on another sub-topic. Any info either way on this? I know that XBMC being GPL (I believe) you guys could obv. make no profit on it, but is it being taken to the next step and actually being open sourced once you get to production ready code?

  3. avner says:

boxee is indeed open-source. in the download page you’ll find links to the source-code as well.

we’re contributing code back to xbmc on an on-going basis and work very closely with team-xbmc.

Can’t wait for boxee to make it to Windows! (Or maybe a LiveUSB version?)

  5. HansW says:

I only have one bug to report….

You cannot open the application “Boxee.app”
because it is not supported on this architecture….

Another one bytes the dust. I think I will delete my account unless someone sponsers me an intel mac :-)

:( we recently released a version that runs on Tiger, but no PPC support planned.. sorry.

Looks pretty cool – I’m an OSXBMX/Plex user and have been very happy with it, though the ripped DVD support is less than stellar from version to version.
Since they’re sharing code with XBMC and Plex is (more or less – I sense much drama there) sharing code with XBMC, I’m guessing the DVD support is about as stable? I do like the social aspects of it, where does it pull the “your friends” info from? I’m pretty much the only one of my friends who’s using any sort of media PC (or last.fm for that matter), much less an OS-X based one. Although a Netflix “friends queue” plugin would kick ass since everyone I know IS using Netflix.

You cannot open the application “Boxee.app” because the architecture does not support it. I am running OSX 10.5.5 on a dual G5.

Will this run on my Apple TV?

  9. tom sella says:

@Aquia33 boxee is Intel only, while G5 is PPC. it will however work on your ATV.

I have tried a few times now to create a patchstick but the atvusb creator keeps stalling half way through. I have tried 3 different usb flash drives with no success. Any ideas welcome.

    Thanks
