coffee as art
in my opinion israel serves the best coffee in the world these days. and my “scientific” way of measuring it is by the quality of coffee you’ll get when you go just to any coffee shop or restaurant.
i am living in the US where it is very hard to get a decent cup of coffee. but have been drinking coffee in Italy, France, Spain, Netherlands, UK, and other less coffee-savvy countries. there is no comparison in my opinion. israel is #1. the education system may be failing, corruption rising, the security situation if fragile, but the coffee is just getting better.
on my last visit we went to Ilan’s Coffee. a small coffee chain. the barista there adjusts the grinding machine based on the time of day, temperature and moisture… the espresso drips for 24 seconds… the density of the frothed milk is perfect.. the result is amazing. to top it all, if you are being nice and they are in the mood, the girl at the bar makes drawings on the surface of the foam (using a toothpick, example above).
coffee heaven.
