we’ve been spending too much time playing with facebook.. there is even a small contest going between idan and me around the friend list (currently i have more friends, but his friends are much better looking).

to me the most disturbing thing about facebook is the status updates. i used to play with twitter, but didn’t get hooked. it took too much effort and provided little social value. but in facebook you kind of have to update your status and people that would have never used Twitter find themselves updating their status regularly.

most status updates are verrrry boring (at least in my network). i think 80% of the status updates are “at work”, “tired”, “back home”, “back at work”… and then you see people make an effort to be interesting or at least intriguing.

i don’t know how long this trend will last. i think that for the 30+ demographic updating status will get old pretty fast. and probably for the better. most people lives are too boring to generate interesting status updates. and it seems you need some sort of writing talent even in order to write 160 character sentences.

my iTunes crashed and refused to come back to life.
i didn’t feel like rebooting, but i didn’t have any other music player on my Mac.
then i remembered Songbird, which i tried in my Windows days and kind of liked.

so i installed their latest version.
and i am now trying it out.
loving it.

if there is something i don’t like doing i’ll delay it for the very last minute, and in many cases way beyond it…

please don’t recommend self-help books / articles. i will procrastinate reading them..

 

i was supposed to have a call with a contact in Asia. i called, but the person was unavailable and his assistant picked up the phone.

she asked whether i’d like to leave a message, so i said "sure. if could just pass me through to his voicemail".

but she couldn’t. she said she i should just leave the message with her..
so i started saying "please tell him that Avner from Boxee called. Avner is ‘A’ as in Apple, ‘V’ as in Victor… and ‘R’ as in Robert".

so she said "ok. Mr. Victor Robert from which company?"…

i struggled with the rest and verified she wrote down the number correctly. which based on the email i just received she made a mistake with the number, too.. i rarely leave voicemails (or check on my own voicemail). i am much more of an email/sms guy.

these days we’re following only two TV series. Heroes and Lost.
i didn’t watch Heroes on TV last night, so i decided to give a try to their web streaming.

i plugged the laptop to the my TV and chose the ‘full screen’ option.
the quality was great. but the experience was overall annoying:

1. their ‘fullscreen’ model is not really full-screen. which is a shame.
2. when there is advertising it goes from full-screen to ‘normal’ (which is really annoying if you have to get up from the sofa in order to bring it back to ‘fullscreen’…)
3. the screen goes into sleep mode every few minutes (even though i installed a small program that is supposed to prevent it), which means i need to get up from the sofa again
4. the ads were all for the same movie… ok. i get it. can’t they put different ads?

all this getting up from the sofa and back were the most exercise i have done in a while… but don’t make for much of a viewing experience. they should really fix these issues. the ABC web streaming of Lost is much better.
